Settling in for Autumn

It’s defintiely Autumn in London now. The leaves are turning orange and I’m planning a trip down to Kew Gardens to check out the gorgeous colours there.

I’m one of those people who love every season. Apart from when it rains – that makes me miserable. Luckily, it hasn’t rained much yet.

This week, without even realising, I’ve made that shift in my head. So far I’ve:

  • Moved over from summer berries, muesli and yogurt breakfasts to cinnamon and date porridge. I’m eating it with apple, hazelnuts and almonds too.
  • Got me some Adventure tea from Yumchaa. It’s a gorgeous caffeine free red tea blend of rooibos, rose hips, apple, almond, kiwi, hibiscus, caramel and spices.
  • Moved over to red wine. The rosé and white are done for a while.
  • Put the window insulation up. I have two sets of french doors in my room so they need some work to help keep me toasty.
  • Turned the heating on.
  • Put away the summer sandals and short sleeve blouses and bought out the thermals and heavy duty knits.
  • Started wearing knee socks, leggings and a sweatshirt to bed.
  • Well and truly killed off my plants. I was rubbish at looking after them anyway but now the cold snap has finished them off.
  • Started thinking about making Christmas chutney. It needs some time to get better so I’ll do this soon.

Bring on winter! Mulled wine, ginger and orange tea and ice skating. Amazing.

The coat

I finally made a choice so, finally, I have a coat. And she’s a beauty.

I went with a wool camel coloured over coat from French Connection. It’s a winter equivalent of all the blazers I wear to death over the summer and a lovely neutral to make sure everything works well together (I don’t like to match).

I’m so excited I want it to get cold so I can wear it with my winter boots. I love Autumn.

My AW11 wardrobe

Today is sunny but it feels like Autumn has definitely arrived. I always spend the whole of the winter complaining (annoyingly and loudly) about the cold. This year I’d rather it be different.

And here I am planning out what I want for winter. In my defence, I did just receive my copy of September Vogue. As every girl who is even slightly interested in fashion knows, this is the big one of the year. Even the adverts are beautiful and after a summer of flip flops and bikinis, the ladylike glamour of winter style is hard to resist.

I had a whole article already written covering how I was only going to buy quality investment pieces and how I was going to buy the beautiful fawn coloured cashmere coat then be restrained for the rest of the winter. I truly wanted to be that girl looking smug in her expensive coat. But I can’t really afford to. Or maybe that should read ‘I have lots of other things to spend my money on’ – like trips to France.

Also, I was at my mum’s on Saturday and sorted through all the old clothes I stashed there between breakups and house moves. I have a fair amount of old clothes that can now be new clothes with a slight update given by good accessories.

I found three dresses, two scarves, two wooly hats, a pair of jeans, a tailored skirt, a silk blouse and a hooded top.

My autumn wardrobe purchases so far are:

  • An awesome pair of Topshop black biker boots that I’ve already worn a lot.
  • A black lace vest to go under the silk blouse and be paired with the high waisted skinny jeans.
  • Two pairs of charcoal grey merino wool tights – one solid colour, one with flecks of white and blue.

And still to come

  • A cream coloured sweater with a bow on the back
  • A nude coloured mohair cocoon cardigan

I’ll be buying those this week at some point then getting my trench and coat dry cleaned. It’s all about making the most of the new fashion opportunities the colder weather provides.
