Settling in for Autumn

It’s defintiely Autumn in London now. The leaves are turning orange and I’m planning a trip down to Kew Gardens to check out the gorgeous colours there.

I’m one of those people who love every season. Apart from when it rains – that makes me miserable. Luckily, it hasn’t rained much yet.

This week, without even realising, I’ve made that shift in my head. So far I’ve:

Moved over from summer berries, muesli and yogurt breakfasts to cinnamon and date porridge. I’m eating it with apple, hazelnuts and almonds too.
Got me some Adventure tea from Yumchaa. It’s a gorgeous caffeine free red tea blend of rooibos, rose hips, apple, almond, kiwi, hibiscus, caramel and spices.
Moved over to red wine. The rosé and white are done for a while.
Put the window insulation up. I have two sets of french doors in my room so they need some work to help keep me toasty.
Turned the heating on.
Put away the summer sandals and short sleeve blouses and bought out the thermals and heavy duty knits.
Started wearing knee socks, leggings and a sweatshirt to bed.
Well and truly killed off my plants. I was rubbish at looking after them anyway but now the cold snap has finished them off.
Started thinking about making Christmas chutney. It needs some time to get better so I’ll do this soon.

Bring on winter! Mulled wine, ginger and orange tea and ice skating. Amazing.

SS12 Fashion Week highlights so far

The shows have been to New York, London and Milan so far. I’ll need a whole post on Paris in a week or so as most of my favourite designers show there.

For now though, there have been a few amazing collections that have caught my eye. Mulberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Prada have been my standouts.

I’m waiting patiently for Chanel, Chloé, Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Dior…

Sunrise yoga

I’ve been wanting start my early morning yoga sessions again for a while but the cold and dark mornings don’t really give you the suppleness and energy you need to maintain a routine.

I have a really big bedroom with enough floor space to practice unhindered and, as I’m on the 4th floor, I have an amazing view of the sunrise over London. Just like the photo below in fact.

My routine is this:

Sit cross legged for a minute or two to wake up and settle the breathing. Begin to breathe through your stomach rather than your chest.
10 repetitions of sun salutations, 5 on each side.
Spinal twist
Hanging back stretch
Warrior 1 or 2
Hip stretching

It’s a really nice way to introduce a few moments of calm and mindfulness in to my pretty hectic days. I get in the shower feeling relaxed, alert and ready to go.
