I can’t deny it. I love this preppy look and the pops of colour. Combined with the good quality fabrics cut so well, it ticks every box.
Favourite outfits so far? These coloured skinny jeans (dare I?) and this perfect full skirt.

I’ve been having a think about what it is that makes the difference between an outfit I LOVE and wear again and one that I just feel ok about. I’m pretty sure that it’s colour.
Five seems to be the magic number. Five colours that contrast that is. Five colours that match makes things a little too neat and pleasant for my taste.
Soooo….. for example:

black boots + navy jeans + grey jumper + grey coat + cream scarf = no clashing problems or no raised eyebrows and very pulled together but also a bit dull

black heels + mid blue jeans + light grey scarf + coral pink jumper + black coat + brown leather bag = too much contrast for some but expresses personality and is fun to wear
One other key factor is balance and mis-match. To stop everything looking overly done and plain, I like to match different textures and themes. This would go something like
cream lace top + massive silver metalic necklace + leather jacket = takes away the girly-ness and sweetness of the cream lace
scruffy baggy jeans + smart shirt + nice bag + parka + heels = not too smart, not too casual
This article from the Chic Fashionista give some more ideas on this theme. I’ll be testing this out a bit over the next few days so I’ll keep the updates coming!
