I’ve been wanting start my early morning yoga sessions again for a while but the cold and dark mornings don’t really give you the suppleness and energy you need to maintain a routine.
I have a really big bedroom with enough floor space to practice unhindered and, as I’m on the 4th floor, I have an amazing view of the sunrise over London. Just like the photo below in fact.

My routine is this:
- Sit cross legged for a minute or two to wake up and settle the breathing. Begin to breathe through your stomach rather than your chest.
- 10 repetitions of sun salutations, 5 on each side.
- Spinal twist
- Hanging back stretch
- Warrior 1 or 2
- Hip stretching
It’s a really nice way to introduce a few moments of calm and mindfulness in to my pretty hectic days. I get in the shower feeling relaxed, alert and ready to go.
